Hulagu Khan – a complicated and a contradictory person – was known both as a cruel aggressor and as a patron of science and art. Great scholars and musicians such as Nasiraddin Tusi and Safiuddin Urmavi were supported by him in hard times of their life. These facts prove the importance of the multilateral elucidation of the historical events to avoid standard, narrow-negative characteristics of Mongol period.
